Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won the Anambra state governorship election.
“That Charles Chukwuma Soludo of APGA, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” said the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Chief Returning Officer for the poll, Professor Florence Obi, Wednesday morning while announcing the outcome of the election.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) won 19 out of the 21 local government areas in the state, including the supplementary election in Ihiala LGA on Tuesday.
He also scored 25% in all the 21 local government areas of the state.
One local government area, Nnewi North was won by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), while the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Chief Valentine Ozigbo, won one, Ogbaru LGA.
Senator Andy Uba, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was unable to win any local government in the election.
APGA’s Soludo secured a total of 112,229 votes, twice more than his closes rival – PDP’s Ozigbo to be returned as winner of the election.
PDP’s Ozigbo had 53,807 votes while Uba APC’s Uba and YPP’s Ubah scored 43,285 and 21,261 votes respectively.
Anambra state has 2,466,638 registered voters. However, only 249,631 votes were cast during the election as the turnout was poor.
241,523 valid votes were recorded with 8,108 votes rejected.
