A federal high court sitting in Abuja has restrained the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from further releasing of financial allocations to the Rivers state government.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who issued the judgement on Wednesday, held that Governor Fubara’s presentation of the 2024 budget before a 4-member Rivers House of Assembly was an affront to the Constitutional provision.
The court held that monies from the federation account should not be released to the state pending the passage of a lawful appropriation act by a validly constituted house of assembly.
The CBN, the Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank and Access Bank were restrained by the judge from further allowing Fubara to access money from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account.
