This, in itself presents a problem for other states in the northern part of Nigeria where the children were returned to as many of them might be infected.
According to Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, 21 out of the 61 Almajiris that were returned to Kaduna state from Kano tested positive for Coronavirus. This represents 34.4% of the returned children. He made this known while speaking at the digital edition of the Platform Nigeria on Saturday.
Kaduna state has tested over 400 people so far. Kaduna state has only 20 intensive care unit beds with no testing facility prior to Coronavirus pandemic, however additional beds has been built with testing facility in progress the Governor stated.
“To make matters worse, Kano was allowed, to move Almajiris around the north, and has probably set the whole northern Nigeria ablaze with Covid-19. So, in fact, the whole north needs to be given special attention now” said Doyin Odubanjo, chairman, Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria, Lagos Chapter.
