Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday recorded 238 new cases of Coronavirus across 21 states and FCT. The details are as follows, 92 in Kano, 36 in FCT, 30 in Lagos, 16 in Gombe, 10 in Bauchi, 8 in Delta, 6 in Oyo, 5 in Zamfara, 5 in Sokoto, 4 in Ondo, 4 in Nasarawa, 3 in Kwara, 3 in Edo, 3 in Ekiti, 3 in Borno, 3 in Yobe, 2 in Adamawa, 1 in Niger, 1 in Imo, 1 in Ebonyi, 1 in Rivers, 1 in Enugu.
Nigeria has recorded 2,170 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, 351 recoveries and 68 deaths. NCDC has conducted 15,759 tests for Covid-19 according to data available on it’s website as at 22:47 GMT 1 May 2020.
On Friday , US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave an emergency approval for Gilead’s Remdesivir to be used for Coronavirus treatment. This announcement was made by President Donald Trump. According to President Trump, Gilead CEO, Daniel O’Day said the company would donate 1.5 million vials of the drug to help Covid-19 patients.
Remdesivir was originally developed for the treatment of Ebola. During testing, it cut the days of recovery of Covid-19 patients from 15 days to 11 days. It was reported to have a mortality rate of 8%. US has 1,094,640 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and 64,577 deaths while 159,663 has recovered.
32 states in the US are planning to reopen gradually for economic activities to resume. While in Michigan, the stay at home order has been extended to 15 May amid protests. In Connecticut, the Governor, Ned Lamont hopes that businesses will reopen by 20 May.
In Africa, there are total of 39,018 confirmed cases of Coronavirus as at 22:10 GMT according to Africa Center for Disease Control. The Northern African Region has the largest number of cases with 15,100 confirmed cases followed by Western African region with 10,400 confirmed cases of Coronavirus.
South Africa has the highest number of cases by country with 5,951 confirmed case and 116 deaths, followed by Egypt at 5,895 confirmed cases and 406 deaths.
In UK, the Health Secretary Matt Hancock says that the country has now met the testing target of 100,000 tests per day. The government have come under criticism that it is not doing enough tests for Covid-19 in the past weeks. Uk has confirmed 178,684 cases of Coronavirus and 27,510 deaths.

In Russia, The Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has tested positive for Coronavirus. On Friday Russia reported over 8,000 new cases. The country’s total confirmed cases stand at 114,431 with 1,169 deaths and 13,220 recoveries. Russia has been saying that it has Coronavirus outbreak under control.
However, Mikhail Ketskalo, former Military doctor working in the Russian capital Moscow, told Reuters news agency that the current situation in Russia with high influx of Covid-19 patients to hospital can be compared to a warzone.
According to John Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, there are 3,334,416 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, 1,050,768 recoveries and 237,943 deaths recorded globally as at 22:18 GMT of Friday.
