President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared three days of national mourning for Air Force personnel who died in a military plane crash, and ordered flags flown at half-mast nationwide.
The Nigerian Air Force aircraft went down on Monday, October 5, 2026, in Igbokoda, Ondo State, shortly after 9:00 a.m.
In a message to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and all officers, airmen and airwomen of the Nigerian Air Force, the President called the crash a painful moment for the Armed Forces and the nation. He said the sacrifice of Air Force personnel “will never be forgotten.”
He also commended the Air Force for launching a search-and-rescue operation immediately.
The Chief of Air Staff briefed the President, who directed the Air Force to begin a thorough investigation into the crash’s cause. The aim is to prevent future occurrences.
The Air Force will release the names of the dead after contacting their families.
