Four persons died in an attack by gunmen on the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Owerri, the Imo state capital in the early hours of Monday.
The four consisting of a policeman and three of the gunmen died in a confrontation with security operatives who repelled the attack on the office along Port Harcourt Road Owerri.

Channels reported that the Spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Mike Abattam, said the gunmen numbering over 10 came around 3am with petrol bombs and dynamite.
One of the attackers was arrested by the police and three vehicles used by hoodlums recovered. Some parts of the building on the INEC premises were razed in the attack.
There has been several attacks on INEC offices nationwide, including two recent attacks in Imo , one in Oru West Local Government Area and another in Orlu Local Government Area.
