The Independent National Electoral Commission in a press release on Saturday informed the general public of an attack on it’s office in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.

In the document dated 2nd December 2022,seen by Investogist, INEC stated that the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Imo State, Professor Sylvia Uchenna Agụ, reported the attack on INEC’s office in Orlu.
The incident is said to have occurred on Thursday 1st December 2022.
The building which was undergoing extensive renovations following an earlier attack, was reported to have been vandalised and partially set ablaze.
Three out of the seven construction workers involved in the renovation were abducted but later released.
Further damage was abated because of the quick response of the Nigerian Police which deployed its personnel to the site, the statement said.
The Commission expressed it’s concern over the spate of attacks on its facilities and the negative consequences on the preparations for the 2023 General Elections.
This is the fourth attack on Local Government INEC offices within the space of three weeks, following attacks in Ogun, Osun and Ebonyi states.
