Nigeria made it to the podium on Tuesday as Ese Brume won the country’s first medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Brume claimed a bronze medal early hours of Tuesday after she leapt 6.97 meters to finish third place in the women’s long jump event.

Malaika Mihambo of Germany took the gold medal in the event while United States’ Brittany Reece took home the silver medal.

Brume’s win is Nigeria’s first medal in athletics at the Olympic Games in 13 years.
It is also the third Olympic medal Nigeria is winning in the women’s long jump event – Chioma Ajunwa’s gold at the Atlanta ‘96 Olympics topping Okagbare’s silver from 2008 and Brume’s bronze.
Brume, who is the African record holder in the women’s Long Jump event, had qualified for the final stage on Sunday with a jump of 6.76m, 1cm more than the required mark.
