President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of a specialised security unit with advanced rescue capabilities and approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in a renewed push to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area near Ogbomoso.
The directive was conveyed on Sunday, May 31, 2026, during a visit by a high-powered federal delegation to the affected communities of Esiele and Yawota.
The team was led by Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
Background of the Crisis
On May 15, 2026, armed gunmen attacked three schools Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School abducting dozens of pupils and teachers.
The victims were taken into nearby forests.
Reports indicate that some captives have been killed, heightening fears and prompting urgent federal intervention.
The presidential team met with community leaders, affected families, and traditional rulers to express President Tinubu’s deep concern and commitment to restoring security in the region.
Presidential Measures
Forest Guards: President Tinubu approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State, in collaboration with the state government. This initiative aims to strengthen surveillance, search-and-rescue operations, and security in forested areas frequently used by bandits.478908

The delegation, which also included Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa, and Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications Sunday Dare, met with affected families, including the wife and children of slain teacher Mrs. Mary Oyedokun.
Gbajabiamila delivered President Tinubu’s condolences and assured support.
Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga, in a statement, emphasised Tinubu’s deep concern and commitment.
Addressing residents in English and Yoruba, Gbajabiamila stated: “Mr President is deeply troubled by this incident. Whatever it takes, our children and teachers will be brought back home safely.” He assured that operations would be carefully coordinated while heeding appeals for caution from parents
