Dividend season is here once again, as the listed companies on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) release financial statements for the year ended 30 September 2023 and 31 December 2023
The Directors of several companies have proposed the payment of dividends to shareholders. However, the proposed dividends are subject to shareholders’ approval at the Annual General Meeting of the individual companies later in the year.

What is the typical percentage of PAT paid as dividends by each sector quoted on NGX if such data exists?
Banking sector is the only one where the companies listed have close average, they pay about 35-45% of PAT as dividend.
2023 will be different cos of foreign exchange gains which CBN advised them not to consider in their dividend payment.
