The renovated National Model Creche and Nursery in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, has been officially commissioned by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima who represented the first lady stated that programs such as the Work Place Nursery lay the groundwork for Nigeria’s future development and better mother-child relationships
“Let us continue to work together, supporting, empowering and uplifting one another, as we strive for a more inclusive and equitable society,” she said.
“This facility will serve as a preparatory ground for early childhood care, educational and recreational activities for the children, with the policy thrust to improve the Baby Friendly Initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration”.
“As a mother and an advocate for a better life for families, I am passionate about championing initiatives that empower and uplift the lives of our citizens, especially our women. The establishment of the Work Place Nursery stands as a testament to this administration’s dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for working and nursing mothers”.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the Minister of Women Affairs, stated that the facility will help increase productivity and also provide a loving, supportive environment for the children to grow in.
She remarked that her Ministry is responsible in ensuring that women in the public and private sectors do not forego becoming mothers at an early age due to their employment.
Located in Aso-Koro, the Dr. Victoria Gowon National Creche and Nursery welcomes working and nursing women from the public and private sectors.
