There has been fire incident at a branch of Access Bank at Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State on Wednesday morning.
The fire started at the bank’s building after a petrol tanker exploded near it.
Confirming the incident, Access Bank in a tweet wrote “there has been a fire incident at our Adetokunbo Ademola branch this morning. Thankfully, no one was harmed. Our fire protocol has been activated and all personnel have been moved to safety. Cause of the fire was a diesel truck discharging fuel, we advise you to avoid that area.”
The bank has advised its customers to avoid the area and make use of other nearby branches or to use digital banking.
The list of other nearby branches provided by the bank are;
- Adeola Odeku Branch
- Muri Okunola Branch
- Ajose Adeogun Branch Alternatively

In a separate tweet the Federal Fire Service wrote “Men of the Federal Fire Service are already at the scene ( ADEMOLA ADETOKUNBO, VICTORIA ISLAND, LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA.) Where a Petrol tanker is currently on fire, close to an access bank branch. Please take alternative routes.”

Fire incidents and tanker explosions has become a regular occurrence in Nigeria, hence the need for relevant authorities to do more in the areas of fire safety to protect lives and properties.
