The Nigerian Government has paid the 45-month minimum wage arrears owed to Nigerian Meteorological Agency employees, dating back to 2019.
Tension between NiMet management and staff over the unpaid arrears was resolved following government intervention.
Earlier this year, the situation almost led to industrial action, as the unions had planned to go on strike on May 20, 2024. However, the strike was averted at the last minute following an intervention by the House Committee on Aviation Technology and their Senate counterpart.
The Director-General of NiMet Prof Charles Anosike, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for authorizing the payment. The staff also thanked government officials for intervening and expressed renewed commitment to their work.
