The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ottawa, Canada, to serve Nigerians in North America from 2027.
The centre is expected to enable eligible Nigerians in Canada and other parts of North America to sit for the exam without travelling to Nigeria specifically for it.
The board disclosed the plan on its official social media platforms after Registrar Prof. Segun Aina visited the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa. JAMB said the initiative followed discussions between Aina and Nigeria’s Ambassador to Canada, Prof. Isaac Adewale.
“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” JAMB said. The board added that the centre would give eligible candidates easier access, particularly those seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
It also described the project as a step towards taking Nigerian tertiary education to the world.
JAMB already conducts the UTME in several countries, including the United Kingdom, South Africa, Ghana and Saudi Arabia. The Ottawa centre would extend that network into North America.
The board has not yet announced registration procedures, fees, the exact venue or the date of the first sitting. Candidates and parents should rely only on official JAMB channels for updates.
