The Presidential Election Petition Court on Tuesday consolidated all the petitions against the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.
The consolidation was contained in a pre-hearing report read by the chairman of the five-man panel of the court, Justice Haruna Tsammani on Tuesday.
The petitioners were the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), which is the sole petitioner in its case.
Tinubu and the APC had opposed the Tribunal’s idea of consolidating all the petitions but INEC left the consolidation decision to the panel.
However, the five-member panel of the court led by Justice Tsammani, in a unanimous decision on Tuesday, dismissed APC and Tinubu’s objections against the merger and held that the petitions would be consolidated and heard side by side given the time constraint to hear and determine the petitions.
The court fixed May 30, 2023 for the commencement of the definite hearing of the petition. The tribunal, by law has 180 days – until September 16, to determine the petitions
