The United Kingdom has added Nigeria to its Red List category as it tightens travel restrictions over concerns of the outbreak of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron.
“From 0400 on Monday 6 December, Nigeria will be added to the red list for entering England,” according to the UK government’s travel advisory.
This implies that the only people allowed to enter the UK from Nigeria are UK or Irish nationals, or UK residents. Also, there is 10 days self-isolation in a pre-booked government approved hotel, paid for by the traveler.
The rates according to a BBC report are:
- 10 days (11-nights) for one adult – £2,285
- Additional adult (or child over 11) – £1,430
- Children aged five to 11 – £325
Other countries already on the Red List are South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Angola, Mozambique and Zambia.
