The Federal High Court has accredited only 10 journalists to cover the trial of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, set to begin Monday 26 July.
A circular by the court dated 23rd July 2020 and signed by the Chief Information Officer, Catherine Oby Christopher listed journalists from Herald, NTA, NAN (News Agency of Nigeria), Channels, AIT, The Nation, Premium Times, Daily Independent, Thisday and TVC.
The Punch, Vanguard, and others are not on the list.
According to the circular only the listed journalists would be allowed entrance to the court’s premises.
Kanu’s trial begins today on 11 count charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, illegal possession of arms, among others.
He was remanded in the DSS custody on June 29, by Justice Binta Nyako following his controversial re-arrest and extradition to Nigeria.
