The State Deputy Governor of Katsina state, Hon. Faruk Lawal Jobe on Sunday launched the distribution of palliative across the state.
During the launch of the excercise in the Kankara Local Government Area of the state, Jobe said that each of the state’s 6,652 polling units will be given five bags of rice. This will amount to a total of 33,260 bags of rice.
“This is different from the earlier one distributed by the local councils following the directives of the State Governor, Malam Dikko Radda, for local councils to purchase maize and distribute to the people free of charge,” he said.
“All other things will be done, particularly empowering the less privileged and small and medium enterprises, to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
“Apart from the palliatives, we are looking at the transport sector. The labour unions are also putting pressure on the Federal Government to negotiate wages.”
Recall that the Federal Government in August approved N5 billion for each of the 36 states in Nigeria to buy 100,000 bags of rice, 40,000 bags of maize and fertiliser as part of fuel subsidy removal palliative.
