The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the re-arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Kanu was arrested and extradited to Nigeria to face trial, according to Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, Premium Times reported.
Malami disclosed this at a joint press briefing on Tuesday with the State Security Service (SSS) in Abuja.
He said that international collaborative efforts with security agencies led to Mr Kanu’s arrest and repatriation to Nigeria.
However, Emma Powerful, IPOB spokesman, denied the news of the arrest, according to The Cable.
Mr. Kanu is facing treasonable felony charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja with his co-defendant.
In April 2017, he was granted bail for health reasons but skipped bail after flouting some of the conditions given to him by the court.
He fled the country in 2017, following the invasion of his home by the military in Afara-Ukwu, near Umuahia, Abia State.
