Hi dear, this is an article on depression and resilience, this article illuminates the unwholesome impact our double-faced society plays in aiding states of depression.
My names are Micheal Iloduba Authentic and I’m writing this article from a place of resentful experience on depression, so trust me when I say I know how you feel and you’re going to feel a bit better after reading this article. Distinctly, I spotlighted some of the struggles depressed individuals fight behind closed doors.
The adoption of individual resiliency in the midst of these chaotic insanities and conveyance of hope and healing messages, would propel you to face life head up fully geared with the aim of getting the best version of yourself.
If life comes with thriller or manual perhaps, we would be more prepared as to what challenges life throws at us, unfortunately there’s no manual to life. Back then in school there’s usually a school curriculum (Timetable) and this curriculum tells what school activities to expect during that section or period of time and you plan ahead of time, unfortunately there is no curriculum or syllabus to life, sadly life leaves to a LEAVE AND LEARN system.

This popular quote state that When life gives you lemon, you make lemonade off it, however, these lemons don’t directly fall from the sky. Mind you, in some ways with our actions and inactions, we consciously or unconsciously become constant suppliers of these lemons.
Aside death in most cases being an unforeseen circumstance, most of the pain and troubles we face come from humans. Heartbreak, deceit, slander, conflict and other (lemons) are human inflicted.
An advanced dictionary states depression to be sad feelings of gloom and inadequacy. Depression is a mental state characterize a pessimistic sense of inadequacy and a despondent lack of activity.
Society haven’t been fair to some persons who courageously admitted their struggles with depression as most of them end up being slammed. This in some way has made others crawl back into their shell of misery and has also discouraged others from speaking up. With our actions and inactions, we have helped people learn to live camouflaged lives as they are now better concealers of pain to avoid being judged and shamed or even being dragged.
On a daily basis we all face our storms of life, as they say problem no dey finish, but the outcome of these storms differs as we don’t have the same level of endurance to withstand pains and manage conflict. Unfortunately, we all do not have the same approach to life and this can blazingly be seen in our recovery process after these storms.
With our different abilities and orientations, some surf through the storm, others swim through it and sadly majority of us drown in ours. In the same vein, after these storms, one can either learn from it and take-home better lessons adding new survival skills to their life archives, others are nonchalant and adamant and miss the lessons these storms bring, while majority live with the pain all through their lives and make no step towards healing and recovering.
Instead, like sad tales, they tell it to others with the purpose of inflicting fear and with other ulterior motives they may have up their sleeves. While some go the extra mile to inflict this pain on others not because they have been hurt directly by those, they choose to inflict this pain on but because they feel life hasn’t been fair to them, why should it be fair to you?
So, when they see things going smoothly for others, they become engulfed with jealousy and voluntarily make themselves available to be architects of doom preying on those who have chosen to be undeterred and do not negotiate their happiness no matter the circumstance they are faced with. They prey on others just because they couldn’t find happiness themselves even while/when they blatantly refused to seek it.
We all fall into one of these categories. The need to heal cannot in anyway be overemphasized as we all have need of it. Life doesn’t give room for rehearsals but we have the choice to “choose what we become from it”. We all know ourselves better, therefore, it’s my earnest desire that we revisit those wounds we left unhealed, work towards healing and show the world our battle scars not with the intention to pull down but to uplift and together, with solidarity, we can help each other overcome their storms.
LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL but you wouldn’t know if you do not have the right attitude to face it. I hope this “resilience poem” stirs up optimism and propels you to face life head on fully geared to be the best version of yourself.
“RESILENCE POEM”
Permit me to highlight the side everyone dreads
The side that turns everyone off
I’m certain without doubt you know them
But you try to hide them
The depression that slides in at the end of the dayWhen you have taken off your “smiling” mask
The mask you wear each day to face the world
This mask gives you the highest likes on the gram/online
But no real friends in the real world
While the world you lied to has gone to sleep,
You alone battle those thoughts in your head
You alone toss a million times on your bed
You alone feel the emptiness/void in your soul
Now your true self welcomes home, depressionYou want to talk to someone
Everyone screams I’m here talk to me!
Unfortunately,
these people are looking for new topic to gossip with
(Who wouldn’t want to hear the misery that befell you?)Oh, did I forget to mention
The ones that will tell you to call them when you need someone to talk to
The ones that will tell you to call them,
when you need anything, but
are never there when you need themI urge you to choose self-love.
I feel empowered When I see the word resilience I feel like I can swim again against the waves When I see the word resilience I can get back and up land another punch When I see the word resilience I see my ugly past self; and I waved a goodbye to him without feeling remorseful
And I turn to my new self, I and say to him “you will get through this I tell him that he won’t have a hard life forever
I tell him he won’t be broke forever
I tell him no condition is permanent
I tell him that things will fall in place in due time
I tell him to head up and trust the processAnd above all I tell him God is the greatest,
and he never disappoints whoever that call on his name I tell him that he has the most resilience of anyone I know And onto hang onto that one word because it will get him through That one-word resilience
I employ you to remain RESILIENT in the midst of all these insanities
You will be fine
Always bear in mind that someone cares so much about you and you are not in this alone, so heads up and face life.
Cheers and love from your humble friend Authentic Mike
