Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar has won the ongoing PDP Presidential Primary, beating closest rival, Nyesom Wike to become the PDP flag bearer for the 2023 presidential election.
Rivers State Governor, Wike had won 238 delegates’ vote, while Atiku Abubakar secured 371 votes.
Other contenders managed to gather less than 100 votes;
- Bukola Saraki got 70 votes
- Senator Bala Mohammad got 20 votes
- Governor Udom Emmanuel got 38 votes
- Former Senate President, Pius Ayim got 14 votes
Total votes cast was 763, with 12 of them being void.
Earlier in the day, 3 PDP Presidential Aspirants; Aminu Tambuwal, Bukola Saraki and Mohammed Haya-tu-deen stepped down for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
On Wednesday, popular candidate, Peter Obi left the PDP and withdrew from the Presidential Primaries. He has since joined the Labour Party to continue his drive to win the presidential election.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar ran on the PDP ticket in the 2019 presidential election with Peter Obi as his running mate and lost to APC’s incumbent President Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osibanjo.
