The leader of Afenifere, a pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Ayo Adebanjo said the body will support Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
Adebanjo on Tuesday said Obi has the ability to “rule independently” and would not disappoint Nigerians if he wins the 2023 presidential election.
He stated this while speaking on Yoruba Gbode, an online radio programme,
Adebanjo said he has lost confidence in Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer, and Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said Tinubu sold President Muhammadu Buhari to Nigerians in 2015, adding that he would give continuity to “incompetence” if elected.
Afenifere’s reason to support Obi is based on equity and fairness, Adebanjo told Vangaurd. He added that Obi’s presidency will bring “peace and tranquility” to the country.
Adebanjo said: “Yes we have endorsed Peter Obi. My reason for supporting him is because based on equity and justice the presidency should go to the South-East. That is what I have been saying. I have not changed my position on that. If you want peace and tranquility in this country; if you want the country to be united, we must do the right thing by ensuring the presidency goes to the South-East. I have no reason to change my stand.”
