French President Emmanuel Macron stated on February 28, 2026, that France “stands ready to deploy the necessary resources to protect its closest partners, should they request it.”
The declaration came hours after the United States and Israel launched major strikes on Iranian targets, prompting Iranian retaliation against Israel and U.S. military assets in Gulf states (including Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan).
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter,
Macron described the conflict as the start of a war and carrying “grave consequences for international peace and security,” called the escalation “dangerous” and urged it to stop, while pressing Iran to negotiate an end to its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
He also announced measures to safeguard French nationals, territory, troops, and assets in the region, and called for an emergency United Nations Security Council meeting.
It signals defensive solidarity with allies without committing to offensive operations, positioning France as a measured European voice amid the rapidly escalating war.
