The Anambra Police Command’s foot patrol officers has arrested one Chigozie Orji following a search that uncovered a locally fabricated Beretta pistol concealed inside a bag.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday in Onitsha, Anambra. Ikenga explained that this action was part of the enhanced security measures directed by the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu. He noted that operatives from the Anambra Police Command, stationed at the Awada Divisional Headquarters, were on a routine foot patrol in identified high-risk areas when they intercepted the suspect, Orji.
The incident occurred on Feb. 18 at approximately 8:00 p.m. when police officers patrolling around Upper-Iweka in Onitsha stopped Chigozie Orji, a male. Upon searching him, the officers discovered the locally fabricated Beretta pistol.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect may be involved in criminal activities in the area. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for further investigation and necessary legal action. Ikenga assured the public that the police command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of residents.
He urged community members to continue providing useful information that could assist law enforcement in combating crime. (NAN)
