The Kogi State Government has announced the successful rescue of the last remaining eight kidnapped students from Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, who were kidnapped.
The students were said to be freed from captivity in a forest Kwara State, thanks to a collaborative operation between the two state governments.
In an official statement released on Sunday, The state Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, revealed that the Governor of Kogi State has directed full support towards the recovery of the students and their parents, as well as implementing measures to improve overall security in the state.
“The government of Kogi State is deeply grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his prompt mobilization of resources to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students. We also thank the National Security Adviser immensely for his commitment to the release of the students and the general security of the State. He appreciated the Kogi State Command security agencies, Police, DSS, NSCDC and the local hunters for their effort towards this feat.” Fanwo stated.
The statement went on to express, “Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo immense gratitude towards his Kwara State counterpart, Governor AbdulRahmam AbdulRazak for his personal involvement, cooperation, and support in the successful operation to the rescue of the remaining students.
He assured that the state have put structures in place to keep the schools safe to ensure every child is not deprived of his or her right to education.
The governor urged citizens to always volunteer intelligence to security agencies to enable them to prevent crime. This is safer, cheaper and better for us all.
“All of us must come together to defeat banditry, kidnapping and any form of criminality in our society,” he added.
On Sunday 26 May 2024 the Kogi State Police Commissioner, Bertrand Onuoha confirmed the killing of the two abducted students of the Confluence State University recently in the Osara area of the state.
The police commissioner did not, speak further on the event.
