Sixteen persons have been burnt to death beyond recognition with 3 seriously injured, in an auto crash at Ajue community, along the Ore-Ondo highway, Ondo State Tuesday night.
Two people reportedly escaped without injury in the accident that involved a Toyota Hiace Bus and a Truck.
An eyewitness said the the two vehicles bursted into flames following a collision caused by a dangerous overtaking by one of the drivers.
The Ondo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ibitoye Samuel, who confirmed the incident, said rescue operation ended about 11p.m.
Ibitoye said investigations on what led to the accident had not been concluded.
“The preliminary investigation indicated over speeding and wrongful overtaking,” he said.
The deceased had been taken to the mortuary of the state Specialists Hospital in Ondo town.
