Starlink has once again increased its standard subscription price to N75,000, following indications that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is likely to approve a tariff hike for telecom operators. This comes just weeks after the internet service provider had raised its standard subscription prices by 97.37% to N75,000, citing high inflation as the reason.
However, the NCC had rejected this increase, stating that it had not approved the hike, which forced Starlink to revert to its previous pricing. Currently, there are signs that the regulator may approve its first tariff increase in a decade for the telecom sector, after months of lobbying by operators who are declaring financial losses and have halted investments.
This tariff hike is expected to be applied across the board, benefiting operators like Starlink. In an email to customers, the satellite internet provider announced its new price structure. “These changes reflect our commitment to investing in the infrastructure needed to support and enhance your experience with Starlink,” the company stated.
Under the new pricing structure, the standard subscription will now cost N75,000, up from N38,000. Additionally, the mobile global roaming service will now cost N717,000 monthly, while mobile regional roaming will cost N167,000. The new prices will take effect from January 27, 2025, for existing customers, but will be implemented immediately for new customers.
This price increase is also expected to enable the company to resume delivering its kits across Nigeria after pausing orders in November. “We’re committed to providing high-speed internet in Nigeria and are working closely with regulators to make adjustments that will enhance the customer experience. Until these changes are approved, we are putting new residential orders on hold,” the company stated in November.
