Inline with the Federal Government’s promise to open the Second Niger bridge to traffic to ease traffic during the Christmas celebration, the bridge was opened to Vehicular movements early today, the 15th of December 2022.

Channels TV reported that bridge opened to vehicular movement at exactly 9.50am on Thursday.
Channels also reported that the first driver to pass through the bridge was Sunday Emem, who expressed his delight. He was quoted to have said;
I feel so happy, at least it will reduce the hold-up. We’ve stayed over one hour at the other bridge.”
The bridge will be open for only 30 days, so as to allow the government complete the construction work on the 17km access road before May 29, 2023.
The scope of works as being built include the construction of 1.6 km long bridge, 10.3 km Highway, Owerri interchange and a toll station.
