The Rivers State Police Command has identified and arrested Police officers alleged on video posted online to have kidnaped and extorted a resident in Port Harcourt.

In the video uploaded on 8 September by Uche Okoye, by a social media user on his X handle @UchePOkoye, a young man simply identified as “Kay Persona,” narrated how some police officers allegedly kidnapped, locked him up in a police cell and forced him to pay a sum of money before being released.

The man said incident happened around Rumuokwuta in Port Harcourt, shortly after they had passed a police checkpoint without being stopped. He said the officers, who were armed and dressed in ash and blue police camouflage, had intercepted a bolt vehicle he was riding in.
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the identification and arrest of the officers alleged to be involved in the kidnapping and extortion in a message via their verified X handle on Tuesday, 19 September.
The Command did not mention the number of the officer arrested in connection with the matter but a photograph posted on X showed five officers.
The Police command pleaded with the general public to synergies with them in the fight against crime.
Investogist had in June reported that the Rivers State Police Command arrested and detained a police officer accused of extorting a Traveler coming into Port Harcourt in a public transport.
