Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, has been rewarded for his terrific performances for his Belgian club, KRK Genk, as he was announced the 2020-21 Belgian Jupiler Pro League Player of the Year and winner of the Golden Boot award.
His blistering form for John van den Brom’s men, helped the Blue and White finish as third runners-up (4th position) in the Belgian top-flight.
The 26-year-old Nigerian international bagged 33 wonderful goals in 38 league games with 35 strikes across all competitions this season, including other mesmerizing football artistry. Last season he missed out on same individual award after finishing third.
He also helped his club win the Belgian Cup following a 2-1 win against Standard Liege where he provided the assist for Genk’s winning goal.
His fantastic dribbling skills and ball control/holding have put him on the front burner for excellence. He has used his height to a magnificent output, scoring a number of goals with his head.
Genk, applauding Onuachu’s performances, described him as a legend when they tweeted, “Congratulations Paul! As a club, we are of course very proud of Paul. He is already a legend of KRC Genk.”
Onuachu’s blistering form also earned him a recall to the Super Eagles in March, having last featured for the Eagles in November 2020.
He scored in each of his appearances on his return to the Super Eagles against the Republic of Benin and Lesotho thereby helping the team qualify for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon.
The young striker has two years left on his current contract with Genk. Speculations are rife if he will remain with the club beyond the summer as top European clubs in the Netherlands, England, and Spain have reportedly shown interest in the 26-year-old.
