The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed commercial banks to begin the payment of the new naira notes to customers over the counter, Channels Television reported.
The CBN however, set the maximum daily payout at N20,000.
This is according to a Thursday statement signed by the Bank’s Director, Corporate Communications Osita Nwanisobi.
The directive comes Nigerians lament about scarcity of the new notes and long queues at the ATMs.
“In line with this resolve, the Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has directed deposit money banks (DMBs) to commence the payment of the redesigned Naira notes over the counter, subject to a maximum daily payout limit of N20,000,” the statement added.
Recall that the apex bank had in January ordered banks to stop paying customers the new notes over-the-counter.
The CBN had directed the banks to have their Automated Teller Machines (ATM) loaded with only new naira notes.
