Denmark’s team doctor, Morten Boesen, has said that Inter Milan midfielder, Christian Eriksen, who collapsed on the pitch against Finland untouched by any player, ‘was gone’ before the medical team resuscitated him via CPR.
When confirmation came from the hospital that Eriksen was awake, the suspended match was approved to resume about two hours later with Finland finally winning the encounter 1-0 in Copenhagen.
According to the Danish Football Union (DBU), in a statement, the player remains in a stable condition pending further examinations at the hospital.
The statement read, in part, “His condition is stable and he continues to be hospitalized for further examination.
“This morning we have spoken to Christian, who has sent his greetings to his team-mates.
“The team and staff of the national team has received crisis assistance and will continue to be there for each other after yesterday’s incident.
“We would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt greetings,” the statement said.
Boesen also said, “We got him back after one defib. That’s quite fast. He was gone. We did cardiac resuscitation, it was a cardiac arrest. How close were we (to losing him)? I don’t know.
“When I got to him, he was on his side, he was breathing, I could feel a pulse, but suddenly that changed and we started to give him CPR.
“The help came really fast from the medical team and the rest of the staff with their co-operation, and we did what we had to do and managed to get Christian back.”
The football world and humanity in total have been full of accolades for Denmark skipper, Simon Kjaer, for stopping Eriksen from swallowing his tongue and putting him in recovery position (on his side) before the arrival of the medics.
