The Chairman of the National Population Commission, Mr Nasir Kwarra has said that the commencement of the 2023 national housing and population census earlier slated for March 29 is likely to be affected by the postponement of the governorship and state assembly elections.
Kwarra, stated this while speaking at a meeting with the resident representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Abuja.
He said that he will consult with President Muhammadu Buhari for a suitable date for the national census.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission postponed the governorship and state assembly elections earlier scheduled to hold on March 11, by one week to March 18 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC in a press release signed by Festus Okoye, National Commissioner & Chairman Infomation and Voter Education Committee, said that the ruling of the Tribunal on Wednesday which allows the commission to reconfigure its BVAS for the state elections “come far too late for the reconfiguration to be concluded.”
