Domestic Investors dominated trading on the Nigerian Exchange Limited in September 2025, accounting for 76.09% of trading figures, while Foreign Portfolio Investment, according to the Domestic & Foreign Portfolio Investment Report of Nigerian Exchange Limited.

A review of the report shows that as at 30 September 2025, total transactions at the Nigerian Exchange increased significantly by 78.50% from ₦908.38 billion in August 2025 to ₦1.6214 trillion in September 6, 2025.
The performance of the current month when compared to the performance in September 2024 (₦493.01 billion) revealed that total transactions increased significantly by 228.89%.
In September 2025, the total value of transactions executed by Domestic Investors outperformed transactions executed by Foreign Investors by circa 52%.
A further analysis of the total transactions executed between the current and prior month (August 2025) revealed that total domestic transactions increased by 67.51% from ₦736.57 billion in August 2025 to ₦1.2338 trillion in September 2025.
Also, total foreign transactions increased by 125.61% from ₦171.81 billion to ₦387.62 billion between August 2025 and September 2025.
The Nigerian Exchange recorded a foreign inflow of ₦0.32 trillion in September, and a foreign outflow of ₦0.06 trillion.
Year-to-date in 2025, there has been a combined foreign inflow of ₦1.03 trillion and foreign outflow of ₦0.81 trillion.
On the domestic front, data shows that Institutional Investors outperformed Retail Investors by 54%. A comparison of domestic transactions in the current and prior month (August 2025) revealed that retail transactions decreased by 18.94% from ₦343.67 billion in August 2025 to ₦278.57 billion in September 2025.
However, the institutional composition of the domestic market increased significantly by 143.13% from ₦392.90 billion in August 2025 to ₦955.26 billion in September 2025.
Total domestic transactions accounted for about 85% of the total transactions carried out in 2024, whilst foreign transactions accounted for about 15% of the total transactions in the same period.
The transaction data for 2025 shows that total domestic transactions are circa ₦6.6973 trillion, whilst total foreign transactions are circa ₦1.8407 trillion.
