Corporate Actions for the Week ended 25th April 2020

Q1 2020 Earnings season in full flow

With a new trading week in view, it is time to sit back and reflect on all that happened in the previous week. As you strategize for the new week, we want to walk you through the actions that listed companies on the Nigeria Stock Exchange took last week. Several companies like UBA PLc, Access Bank Plc, Unilever Nigeria Plc released Q1 2020 financial statements.

Despite several companies already releasing Q1 2020 reports others like UAC of Nigeria Plc and Wema Bank Plc are lagging behind with the release of full year 2019 financial statements. Other companies announced date of board meetings for the review and approval of Q1 2020 accounts as well as closed periods.

Here is a breakdown of the actions during week.

Unilever Nigeria Plc (NSE ticker – UBN) released its audited financial statements for the period ended 31st March 2020. It was another unimpressive outing for Unilever Nigeria Plc, as it reported a substantial decline in revenue for the second consecutive first quarters. UAC of Nigeria Plc (NSE ticker – UACN) released audited financial statements for the period ended 31st December 2019. The company recorded a double digit rise in revenue from N70.47bn in 2018 to NGN79.20bn. The revenue growth can be traced to the Animal Feeds & Other Edibles segment which reported a revenue of NGN51.81bn (FY 2018: NGN44.57bn) thus accounting for  65.4% of the Groups revenue. It also announced a dividend of 10kobo per ordinary share subject to appropriate withholding tax and approval. Qualification date and payment date 18th May 2020 and 18th May 2020 respectively. UACN registrar is Africa Prudential Plc.

FBN Holdings Plc (NSE ticker – FBNH) released its first quarter 2020 unaudited financial statements for the period ended 31st March 2020 to the Nigeria Stock Exchange and the Investing public. It posted a 14.52% growth in Revenue from external customers, growing it from N139.43bn to… full report and analysis

FBNH also issued an update on the performance of the N10.69 billion ($29mn) Green Bond it issued in 2017 fiscal year.

Cadbury Nigeria Plc (NSE ticker – CADBURY) released its Q1 unaudited financial statements for the period ended 31st March 2020 posting a Revenue of NGN8.55bn, 8.08% lower than the NGN9.28bn recorded for the same period in 2019. Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (NSE ticker – GUARANTY) released Its Q1 unaudited financial statements for the period ended 31st March 2020 to the Nigerian Stock Exchange and the Investing Public. The bank reported a total earnings of…see full report and analysis

Wema Bank Plc (NSE ticker – WEMABANK) released its full year audited financial statements for the year ended 31st December 2019. Payment of 4kobo per ordinary share final dividend was announced by the bank. Qualification date and payment is 6th May 2020 and 18th May 2020 respectively. The registrar for the bank is Greenwich Registrar & Data Solutions.

 The bank also issued a notice of board meeting and closed period for Q1 2020 accounts. Board meeting will be held on Tuesday 12th May 2020 at 10:00am to consider and approve the group’s unaudited financial statements for the quarter ended March 31st 2020. Consequently the closed period started on Friday 24th April 2020 until 24hours after the unaudited financial statements for the quarter ended March 31 2020 is filled with the Exchange.

Nigerian Breweries Plc (NSE ticker – NB) released its first quarter unaudited financial statements for the period ended 31st March 2020, reporting no significant change in Net Revenue. United Capital Plc released its Q1 2020 unaudited financial statements for the period ended 31st March 2020. A review of the report by Investogist Analysts showed that the Group grew its Gross Earnings by 32.23% to N1.91bn (Q1 2019: NGN1.45bn). Access Bank Plc (NSE ticker – ACCESS) released its Q1 unaudited financial statements for the period ended 31st March 2020. The Group reported Gross earnings of N209.79bn, a marginal decrease from N216.96bn reported at the same period in 2019. CAP Plc (NSE ticker – CAP) released its unaudited financial statements for the period ended 31st March 2020. The paint manufacturer posted a Revenue of N2.31bn from the sale of its paint products in Nigeria, a 10% growth from the N2.09bn reported for the same period in 2019. United Bank for Africa Plc (NSE ticker – UBA) released its Q1 unaudited financial statements for the period ended 31st March 2020. The Bank reported an 11.77% growth in Gross Earnings, rising from N131.66bn reported in Q1 2019 to N147.16bn for the period in review. Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (NSE ticker ETI) released its condensed unaudited consolidated financial statements for the period ended 31st  March 2020.

MTN Nigeria Communications Plc (NSE ticker -MTNN) released a revised dividend information. A final dividend of N4.97 was declared per 2kobo ordinary share. The qualification date and payment is 17th April and 19th May 2020. MTNN registrar is United Securities Limited.

Dangote Cement Plc (NSE – DANGCEM) announced the successful issuance of N100 billion series 1 fixed rate senior unsecured bonds due April 2025 under the N300 billion bond programme. This is the largest ever corporate bond issuance in the Nigerian debt capital market. It was more than 1.5 times oversubscribed.

Wapic Assurance Plc (NSE TICKER -WAPIC) became the first insurance company in Nigeria to announce the refund of insurance premiums for motor vehicle insurers. Nestle Nigeria Plc issued a notice of board meeting and closed period for 2020 Q1 accounts. The board meeting will be held on 8th May 2020 to review and approve the Q1 2020 unaudited financial statements. The closed period started on 23rd April 2020 to 11 May 2020.

Ikeja Hotel Plc NSE ticker – IKEJAHOTEL) issued a notice for Board meeting and closed period. The Board meeting will be held on 22nd April 2020 by 11:00am to receive and consider among other business, the first quarter Financial Statement of the company. The closed period started from 8th April.

UNION BANK PLC  (NSE ticker – UBN) gave a notice about it’s 51 Annual General Meeting which will be held in the Auditorium, Stallion Plaza (9th Floor), 36 Marina, Lagos on Tuesday 5 May 2020 at 11.00 a.m. The agenda among other things include the to receive and adopt the Audited Group Financial Statements for the financial year ended 31st  December 2019 together with the reports of the Directors, Auditor, Board Appraiser and Statutory Audit Committee thereon and to declare a dividend for the financial year ended 31December 2019.
