Mohammed Badaru, the Minister of Defence, has resigned from his position, effective immediately.
In a letter dated December 1, 2025 he cited health reasons for his resignation while addressing President Bola Tinubu.
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, released a statement on Monday confirming that President Tinubu has accepted Badaru’s resignation and expressed gratitude for his service to the nation.
“President Tinubu is expected to inform the Senate about Badaru’s successor later this week,” the statement reads.
Badaru, 63, served as the Governor of Jigawa State for two terms from 2015 to 2023. He was appointed Minister of Defence on August 21, 2023, by President Tinubu.
His resignation comes amid the president’s declaration of a national security emergency, with plans to provide further details soon.
This development also follows a meeting between Christopher Musa, the former Chief of Defence Staff, and the president at the State House earlier today.
