Dr. Doyin Okupe, the former Director-General of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign has quit the Labour Party, citing ideological differences.

The former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan disclosed this in a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) page on Monday.

In the statement seen by Investogist, the former PDP man said that himself Mr Peter Obi and others used the Labour Party as a Special Purpose Vehicle to contest the 2023 Presidential Elections.
“You will recall that our flagbearer, Mr Peter Obi, myself, and others left the PDP abruptly and had to look for a Special Purpose Vehicle in which to contest the 2023 Presidential Elections,” Okupe wrote.
He went on to explain that having lost the election, that it was difficult for him to continue to stay in the Labour Party because of ideological differences.
The Labour Party he said was ideologically rooted in the left of the center, while he have been a rightist and a Liberal Democrat all his life.
“It is therefore this ideological conflict that makes me seek an exit so that I may continue my political activities with liberalism, sincerity and freedom,” he added.
Doyin Okupe had in December 2022 resigned as the Director-General of the Peter Obi presidential campaign council.
The resignation came after a federal high court in Abuja convicted the former Senior Special Assistant, SSA, on Media to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for breaching the money laundering act.
