A national delegate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Tanko Sabo said he donated more than N12 million he received from the party’s presidential primary to the less-privileged in the Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna., Punch reported.
Sabo disclosed this to the media outlet in an interview Thursday morning. He said he promised to give his constituents whatever monetary proceeds he received from the PDP if he was elected as a delegate.
Sabo did not divulge the names of the aspirants that gave him the monies, but he said “they are many” and he did not also close the aspirant he voted for.
Sabo said he spent the money through the payment of N6.9 million as “WAEC and NECO examination fees for 150 orphans and the underprivileged,” and another N100,000 for the logistics of a five-man committee set up to go round the schools and make the payments.
He said another N3.2 million was spent on the purchase of 42 customised jerseys to promote sports among the youths in the area, according to the report.
PDP executives in the 11 wards in his local government received N1.3 million while the elderly got N350,000, he said.
PDP held its primaries on Saturday night with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar emerging the party’s flag bearer. Atiku defeated his closest rival Nyesom Wike, the Governor of River State. among others.
