The World Health Organization’s Special Envoy for the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator, Ayoade Alakija has called for the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Ministry of Health to be investigated over mandatory PCR tests for inbound passengers to Nigeria.
In a tweet via her official Twitter handle, Alakija said the entire thing is a criminal enterprise that should be exposed, adding that government officials have interests in Dx centers. She wondered why PCR tests are done without reagents.
While reacting to a tweet by a journalist David Hundeyin, Alakija tweeted, “It’s a scam. The entire thing is a criminal enterprise and should be exposed. Diagnostics tests to enter a country/state where the government officials have interests in Dx test centers. PCR tests with no reagents?! NCDC and MOH should be investigated. It is a SCAM. Period.”

The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Ifedayo Adetifa, had earlier insisted that Nigeria would not scrap COVID-19 tests for inbound passengers into the country due to the high rate of positive cases among inbound travellers.
On Thursday, NCDC reported 91 new confirmed cases of COVID19 Nigeria; Lagos-32 FCT-24 Ekiti-22 Rivers-6 Delta-2 Jigawa-2 Kaduna-1 Oyo-1 Plateau-1. Total confirmed cases – 255,092 and 3,142 deaths.
On Wednesday, NCDC said that “Effective TODAY, Nigeria’s daily #COVID19 case updates will now be shared on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.”
“However, we will continue to closely monitor the national and global trends of the disease.”
