The trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) has pleaded not guilty to the amended 7-count charges against him by the Federal Government.
Kanu was today arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The judge denied his application to be transferred to a correctional center, and ordered that he remains in the custody of the Department of State Services.
The case was then adjourned till November 10, 2021.
Justice Binta Nyako, however, allowed three persons of Kanu’s choice to visit him at the DSS facility.
Kanu has been in the DSS custody since June, when he was arrested in Kenya and returned back to Nigeria for continuation of his trial.
He arrived the courtroom today amid heavy security presence.
The Department of State Services (DSS) refused to allow a single journalist inside the courtroom, saying the action is based on “order from above,” according a report by Vanguard.
His lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor was was granted access into the courtroom.
However, other lawyers, journalists and representatives of apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo, including a former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Ohaneze Ndigbo’s representative were denied access to the court room, according to reports.
