1.) Chief Officer

Description
The Chief Officer is the Master’s deputy and hence his Second-in-Command. He understudies the Master in all aspects of his managerial, professional and commercial duties to qualify him for eventual command.
Responsibility
He is responsible to the Master for the overall care and carriage of the Cargo, in particular during cargo operations. He is responsible for the overall planning of all cargo procedures. He must keep a navigational watch. However, where a ship may carry an extra navigating officer, his watchkeeping may be reduced, but not normally eliminated, (exception may be made to allow the navigating officer to undertake day work), at the discretion of the Master.

2.) Master

Description
The Master has overall responsibility, and authority, for all activities within the ship, for which he is accountable to the Managing Office.
He is chairman of the Management Team.

He is responsible for the following, in particular:
- Safety, both occupational and operational;

3.) Third Officer

Description
The Third Officer understudies and assists the Second Officer. He must keep a navigational watch.
During cargo operations, he will assist with cargo operations, stability, ballast operations, moorings, and ship security during the period of his watch.
Responsibilities
He is responsible for the safety of all personnel working for him.
- He is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all deck portable fire fighting equipment and lifesaving appliances.
- He is responsible to the Master for the completion of records of onboard training.
- Where required shall act as a nominated officer for the GMDSS station with responsibility for associated tests and records.
- He is responsible for the upkeep of the Recreational and Technical library.
- The Third Officer must carry out any lawful command and delegated duty as issued by the Master.

4.) Fourth Engineer Officer

The Fourth Engineer Officer must keep an engine room watch, or, on UMS ships, must act as a duty engineer in rotation.

He must understudy the Second and Third Engineer Officers and is responsible to the Second Engineer Officer for:

5.) Second Engineer Officer

Description
The Second Engineer Officer is the Chief Engineer’s deputy. He understudies the Chief Engineer Officer in all aspects of his managerial, professional and commercial duties to qualify himself for eventual promotion.
He must keep an engine room watch, or, on UMS ships must act as a duty engineer in rotation. However, where a ship carries an extra engineer officer, his watchkeeping may be reduced to 4 hours per day, (or to allow day work), at the Chief Engineer Officer’s discretion.
Responsibilities
He is responsible to the Chief Engineer Officer, for:
- Engine room safety and safe working practices;
- The safety of all personnel working under his supervision;
- The organization and execution of all engine room watchkeeping and machinery operating routines;
- The maintenance, operation, and upkeep of all parts of the engine room and the proper performance of maintenance in accordance with the decisions of the maintenance team and the provisions of the integrated work plan;
- Carrying out routine boiler water, feedwater, and cooling water chemical tests. Reporting any abnormalities immediately, to the Chief Engineer. Failure to do so will lead to disciplinary action.
