Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi has emerged as the All Progressive Congress senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South.
Umahi emerged the winner after APC cancelled an earlier primary election following his loss during the presidential primary election in Abuja on Wednesday where former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, was declared the winner.
On May 28, Umahi’s younger brother, Austin Umahi had won the senate primary which was now cancelled and Umahi elected on Thursday as the senatorial candidate for the 2023 election.
However, a source familiar with the matter told the Sun that no election was rescheduled, that the candidate was only substituted.
He said “no election was rescheduled, what happened was just substitution of candidates. The Electoral Act directs that such exercise must be conducted at the venue where the earlier exercise took place with full agreement of all parties involved.
” The Governor does not need to be present for the exercise to take place. All that is required is just the consent of parties involved and once they agree and sign necessary documents the exercise is complete. Then, the party submits to INEC and case closes”
