Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, who was impeached as Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly in January, may be reinstated.
Reports has it that his security details have been restored while those of Mojisola Lasbat Meranda have been withdrawn.
Meranda, who became the first female Speaker after Obasa’s removal, has not officially resigned, but key All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders reportedly decided she should vacate her position during a recent meeting.
The meeting included prominent figures such as former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, former Osun State Governor Olusegun Osoba, former Commissioner for Justice Muiz Banire, members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and several lawmakers. During this gathering, it was reportedly decided that Meranda should vacate her position.
Sources indicate that Obasa’s removal was deemed illegal, and lawmakers were instructed to restore him to his role.
The timeline for the House to reconvene and make these changes is still unclear.
Meranda had adjourned the plenary indefinitely two weeks ago following unrest caused by an invasion by the Department of State Services (DSS).
