A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has fixed Thursday, July 20 for the ruling on the application filed by the counsel for Nnamdi Kanu asking the court to compel the Department Of State Services (DSS) to allow him access a medical doctor of his choice.

The counsel for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had instituted the suit on February 2nd, 2023, to compel the State Security Service and its Director General, to allow Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unhindered access to Medical Doctors of his choice, and to enable them conduct an independent medical examination of Kanu’s present health condition.
Kanu’s lawyers are also asking the court to compel the DSS to furnish Kanu with a the comprehensive medical records of Onyendu since the 29th day of June 2021 till date, for an independent review and opinion.
At the hearing of the suit, the lawyer to the detained leader of the proscribed indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mike Ozekhome informed the court that the IPOB leader, who is in the custody of the secret police requires urgent ear surgery.
Ozekhome said the DSS has repeatedly refused to grant Kanu access to his personal doctor and have also refused to release medical records of the pro-Biafra agitator.
In his response, counsel for the DSS argued that the Kanu is being given proper feeding and medical attention while in the custody of the secret police.

In a social media fracas between the brother of the Nnamdi Kanu and Bar. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, one of the lawyers to Nnamdi Kanu, the brother to Kanu, Kanunta Kanu released a statement dismissing Bar. Ejiofor and Mike Ozekhome SAN.
He wrote that Bar. Ejiofor and Ozekhome stopped the medical doctors who were to examine Nnamdi Kanu on 5th June at the DSS detention facility, adding that it was one of the reasons the Kanu family was firing both lawyers.
Bar. Ejiofor dismissed Kanunta’s statement, adding amongst other things that the Medical Doctors that attempted to see Kanu, were not there to participate in any surgical procedure, but to first meet and interface with Kanu.
He went further to add that the Medical Doctors were expected to consult with the lead counsel, Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN before proceeding with other administrative engagement as was agreed during a meeting of 3rd June, 2023, held with the DSS in the presence of Nnamdi Kanu.
