Former President Muhammadu Buhari has died at the age of 82.
Buhari passed away in a clinic in London, United Kingdom.
His death was announced on Sunday by Garba Shehu, the former spokesperson, in a post on X.
He wrote, “The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.”
Acvording to reports, Buhari became ill during a routine medical visit abroad and had remained under observation in the weeks leading up to his passing.
Buhari, a retired major general served first as military head of state from 1983 to 1985, before returning as an elected civilian president in 2015. He served as two-term which ended in 2023.
