France has confirmed its first Ebola case, the patient is a doctor who returned from a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo and tested positive for the virus.
The French Health Ministry says the patient was isolated immediately upon arrival and is now stable in a specialist hospital.
Contact tracing is underway, with close contacts placed under 21 days of home monitoring.
The strain behind the outbreak is the rare Bundibugyo variant, for which no approved vaccine or treatment exists.
The DRC outbreak has recorded more than 1,000 confirmed cases and at least 277 deaths since mid-May and WHO says that this is the largest number of confirmed cases in the first month of any Ebola episode on record.
Neighbouring Uganda has also reported infections and two deaths.
Armed conflict in the epicentre, Ituri province, has complicated containment efforts.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control says the risk of sustained transmission within the EU remains very low.
