Lionel Messi’s Argentina wins the Qatar 2022 Wolrd Cup against all odds despite a hat-trick from Mbappe.
The win which now completes Messi’s trophy cabinet, comes 36 and half years after Argentina’s win with Diego Maradona.
The 2022 World Cup final between Argentina and France was settled in a 4-2 a penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw.
Lionel Messi opened the scoring from the penalty spot. Angel Di Maria doubled Argentina’s lead after a sensational pass from Alexis Mac Allister.
But Kylian Mbappe hit back from the penalty spot before scoring a sensational second just moments later to level the score and send the game to extra time.
Then, in the second half of extra time, Messi beat Hugo Lloris again to restore Argentina’s lead, only for Mbappe to score another penalty to seal his hat-trick.
Less than 4 weeks ago, Argentina was beaten by Saudi Arabia in their opening group match.
