The 50% discount on public transport that has been in place in Lagos State since August 2, 2023, has been cancelled.

Governor Sanwo-Olu had on July 31 announced a reduction of transport fares for state-owned buses as part of efforts to cushion the effect of the removal of the petrol subsidy.
The fare for state-owned buses was reduced by 50%, while that of commercial yellow buses was reduced by 25% on all routes.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport (LAMATA) on Saturday announced the reversion to the old rates of public transport from today, November 5.
“The 50% rebate in transport fare in the regulated transport system in Lagos ends on Sunday,” the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority said in a statement on Saturday.
The statement informed commuters that starting “from Monday, November 6, 2023, transport fare will return to the pre-2nd August 2023 rate.”
The agency went further to state that a new off-peak fare will be introduced to give those travelling outside the early morning peak a form of rebate on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Blue Line train.
