Ghana’s Black Stars has defeated their South Korean counterpart, 3-2 at the Education City Stadium in Al-Rayyan, Qatar, reviving their hope of reaching the knockout stage.
The game was played on Monday as part of Matchday 9 of the ongoing tournament’s group stage, an opportunity for the 32 participating teams to advance to the round of 16.
The first goal was scored by Ghana’s Mohammed Salisu at the 24th minute with a second goal 10 minutes later from Mohammed Kudus.
Taegeuk Warriors of South Korea stunned their African counterpart with 2 consecutive goals from Cho Gue-sung in the 58th minute and the equalizer in the 61st minute.
The Black Stars took back the lead with another goal from Mohammed Kudus in the 68th minute, marking the first time Ghana has scored three goals in a World Cup match.
In their first opening match last week, Ghana lost to Portugal while South Korea played a draw with Uruguay.
Portugal, who leads Group H with a goal difference is set to play Uruguay later today.
Prior to the game, Ghana’s coach Otto Addo said, “For sure, it will be very, very tough to beat South Korea because they are good, but now we have to win.”
Earlier today, Cameroon played a 3-3 draw with Serbia.
