A massive explosion in Ibadan, Oyo state capital has killed two people and injured 77 others.
The casualty in the explosion which occured Tuesday evening was confirmed by the state Governor, Seyi Makinde, who visited the scene of the explosion.
Makinde said the explosion occurred at Adeyi Avenue, Bodija, although it was heard and felt in many parts of the city.
He said preliminary investigations by security agencies revealed that the blast was caused by illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija.
“Preliminary investigations by the security agencies revealed that illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices there which caused the blast,” governor Seyi Makinde said.
The National Emergency Management Agency in a statement said that over 20 houses were affected in the Tuesday night explosion.
It said that search and rescue operations are ongoing.
“Over 20 houses were affected. Casualty figures can not be ascertained for now. Search and rescue operation is still ongoing,” the agency said.
